The incident took place when a police team raided Hilleriguda area, about 20 km from here, after getting information about ganja cultivation in villages like Jharpali, Padmagiri and Pedakunda, police said.
"After the police team seized a huge quantity of ganja and was transporting the same in three trucks, residents of the area attacked them with stones, sticks and sharp weapons," Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh said.
Five police personnel, including two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) and three special police officers were injured in stone throwing, he said.
The police fired a few shots in the air to disperse the crowd, SP said police detained one man from the area and investigation was in progress.
