As part of nation wide alert, a five-tier security cover has been thrown in and around the Coimbatore International Airport, following blasts at Karachi Airport in Pakistan.
There will be three-tier security inside the airport, from tarmac to runway and also the waiting hall of passengers, airport sources said.
Checking has been intensified at lobby and parking slots, and also baggage counters, with additional deployment of CISF personnel, some of whom are working extended hours, they said.
Many foreign flights, including to and from Sharjah and Singapore are being operated in the city airport.
