Over Rs two crore worth goods and valuables were forgotten by fliers while traveling or in transit at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the first five months of the year.
The items were recovered by airport security force CISF, with mobile phones accounting as the personal item that has been mostly lost by air passengers.
As per official data, a total of 2,282 items like cellphones, laptops, cameras, wallets, foreign and Indian currency, jewellery, jackets and bags worth over Rs 2.37 crore were recovered between January-May this year by security personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Out of this, the data said, goods worth Rs 91 lakh were restored to the passengers while the rest worth Rs 1.25 crore items were deposited with airport authorities which can be subsequently claimed by fliers by producing bonafide documents.
The data showed that fliers at IGIA, one of the busiest in the country for domestic and international flying, lost 895 mobile phones, 485 laptops, 160 cameras and watches and about 400 jackets and bags during the said time period.
The CISF operates a lost and found system at about 59 civil airports across the country and fliers who forget their belongings at airport terminals can log on the official web portal of the force-- www.Cisf.Nic.In-- and check the status of such goods.
If their belongings are listed on the website, a passenger can claim it by approaching the designated office run by the respective airport authorities.
