People living on the banks and low lying areas have been asked to move to safer places, police said.
Educational institutions in Tirupur district, which bore the brunt of the torrential rains for the last couple of days, were declared holiday today, even as some 600 people living in the low lying areas, were taken to safer places, they said.
At least five houses were damaged as water entered the human habitat yesterday, as River Noyyal was over flowing, with two major tanks brimming to full.
Meanwhile, educational institutions, schools and colleges, were declared holiday in Valparai taluk in Coimbatore district, which also witness heavy rains since last night, official sources said.
Traffic was disrupted on Mettupalayam-Kothagiri road in the district from last night as a big tree fell across the highway. Traffic resumed around 8.00 am today after the tree was cleared, they said.
