Newly-appointed Principal Secretary (Home) of Uttar Pradesh Deepak Singhal today laid emphasize on enhanced use of technology to check crime, and said instead of sitting in their rooms, officers and subordinate policemen would now be required to go out in the field and work.
Talking to the reporters after taking charge, Singhal said he would assess the law and order situation on the basis of public opinion and not on the basis of figures.
He said now it would be mandatory for SPs or ASPs to visit a crime spot, and added that action would be taken if any laxity was detected.
"I myself will start this from visit to Aligarh, Meerut and Moradabad. There will be no compromise on the issue of law and order," he said.
Singhal said the Chief Minister expects police to do something so that criminals and anti-social elements desist from their activities.
He said, to make policing better, technology has to be put to maximum use and an institutional system needs to be prepared to check crime.
Singhal said he would technologically strengthen policing in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of Canada, San Francisco and New York.
Speaking on the occasion Director General of Police A L Banerjee said during a meeting with Singhal it has been decided that if required DIG and IG would also be send on the spot. He said special attention would be paid so that small incidents do not take major shape.
The DG said instead of 'Thana Diwas', 'Samadhaan Diwas' would now be organised which would be monitored by DIGs and IGs.
Singhal was appointed in place of Anil Kumar Gupta, who was removed in the wake of gang rape and murder of two minor girls in Badaun district.
