Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his Cabinet colleagues paid floral tribute to a statue of former Chief Minister Edouard Goubert on his 39th death anniversary here today.
Delegates of the Puducherry Freedom Movement, headed by D Sivaraj, were among those who paid homage to Goubert who was Chief Minister in the 1960s.
Goubert, a veteran freedom fighter, was also the Mayor of the Puducherry Municipality which was functioning under the French system of municipal administration.
His close rapport with the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru enabled the Union Territory establish the medical institution JIPMER.
Goubert was popularly known as 'pappa' (father) Goubert.
