A former gram pradhan was shot dead and his son seriously injured when two motorcycle borne assailants fired at them here today, police said.
Mahendra Yadav (49) alongwith his son Ankit Yadav (18) were on their motorcycle when the unidentified assailants attacked them near Tadakdeeh under Devgaon Kotwali police station area, they said.
Mahendra Yadav succumbed to injuries while being taken to a hospital in Varanasi and his son is undergoing treatment, police said, adding that efforts were on to trace the attackers.
Yadav, a medical practitioner was also a Samajwadi Party worker and had survived similar attacks in the past.
