Former Madhya Pradesh minister Rajkumar Patel withdrew his nomination papers today, which he had filed for contesting Lok Sabha elections from the Vidisha constituency.
Patel was the Congress nominee for the 2009 Lok Sabha polls from Vidisha against BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, but his nomination papers had got rejected on technical grounds.
This time, the BJP has fielded Sushma Swaraj from Vidisha where the Congress nominee is party general gecretary, Digvijay Singh's younger brother Laxman Singh.
Patel had demanded a Congress ticket again to contest from Vidisha, but he was not fielded from there, after which he filed papers as an independent nominee.
An announcement about his withdrawal from the race was made by Madhya Pradesh Congress vice-president Manak Agarwal at a press conference here today.
Patel told PTI that Congress general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Prakash had spoken to him earlier in the day and after this development, he withdrew his papers from Vidisha.
