Former nun accuses priest of rape

A case was registered today here against a Catholic priest for allegedly raping a former nun four years ago.
No arrest has been made yet.
"We have recorded the statements of both the parties and started investigation after registering a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506(B) (criminal intimidation) of IPC against the priest Fizo Chiramel of a church situated at Shyampura," said Upma Singh, in-charge of women police station.
According to the victim, she a became nun in 2008 and a year later she was ordained to work at Shyampura church.
One day in April 2010, the priest raped her while she was alone and also clicked her pictures, she alleged, adding that he threatened to make the pictures public if she reported the incident.

The victim, who later gave up her vocation, mustered courage to approach the police after the accused was transferred from Sagar Catholic diocese, she said.
