"I understand that many people are concerned and anxious about Lee Kuan Yew's condition. I have been informed that he is stable and that the doctors are monitoring him closely," said Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim last night.
"In the meantime, let us continue to give him our well wishes and keep him in our prayers, said Yaacob in a Facebook post.
Lee, 91, was admitted for severe pneumonia and is now in the Intensive Care Unit, breathing with the help of a mechanical ventilator.
Lee was the first Prime Minister of independent Singapore and led the government for three decades till 1990.
Meanwhile, a book on Lee's childhood will be launched at the National Library today. Harry Grow Up: The Early Years of Lee Kuan Yew, published this month, is authored by a Singapore-based illustrator and art lecturer Patrick Yee.
Yee, 51, said he had long wanted to turn Lee's life story into a series that his nieces and nephews could read.
"There are lots of books about him for adults, but I wanted to do something that children can read, with bright, cheerful colours," The Straits Times quoted Yee as saying.
