Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the Shillong Juvenile School at Mawkasiang here.
The Rs 5 crore school will have classes from 1 to 10 and will be built on a 25,000 sq ft plot.
Addressing the function, Mir said, Education is one of the primary rehabilitative services that must be provided to children staying in juvenile homes. The school will help mainstreaming the children through observation, education and vocational training as incorporated in the Juvenile Justice Act.
He expressed optimism that the school will not only cater to the educational needs of the juveniles but also help develop them into good human beings.
Justice S R Sen, who heads the Juvenile Justice Committee of the High Court, and senior officials of the Social welfare department also attended the function.
