Foundry industry in the country should focus on upgrading technology to meet the expected demand given the increased focus of the government on manufacturing, Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF) President Vikas Garg said today.
The growth of the industry should treble in the next ten years to meet the demand, he said at the inaugural function of the two-day 7th National Foundry Conclave here.
It was important for promoting home grown technology by collaborating with institutions like Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Indian Institute of Science, he said.
C R Swaminathan, past Chairman, CII Southern Region, said the industry should look at ways of creating skilled manpower for the future growth.
Stating that this needed to be addressed strategically by creating facilities for training and skill development to ensure supply of floor level workers, he emphasised the requirement for leadership training for the supervisory and lower middle level employees so that there was adequate grooming of leaders for the future of the industry.
The industry should also use information technology to the best to ensure maximum efficiency in production, he said.
The conclave, organised by CII and IIF, is being held once in every two years and over 500 delegates attended it, he said.
