The incident occurred when the children were digging out mud from the bank of Bagmati river at Chera Khera village and the heap of soil caved in on them, Station House Officer of Alauli police station Gajendra Kumar said.
The children were in the age group of 8-11 years, the SHO said.
"As we are talking of education and health, data tells
us that 379 children under age of five die in Madhya Pradesh each day - something which needs urgent action.
He said 10.14 per cent of the school-going children drop out in Madhya Pradesh at primary level and 11.70 per cent at upper primary stage, he said.
"In order to ensure that every child gets quality education, it is important to look at this system holistically and in an integrated manner," he opined.
