Four persons were drowned in the Ganga during immersion of an idol of goddess Durga in Singhaul police station area of the district today, police said.
The incident took place at Maharathpur village where several youths had gathered to perform "visarjan" upon the conclusion of "Chaiti Navaratri" festivities, Additional Superintendent of Police Mithilesh Kumar said.
He said six youths had slipped into deep waters, out of whom two were rescued.
The bodies of the remaining four were recovered an hour later, the Additional SP said adding that the deceased were on the age group of 20-25 years.
The bodies have been sent to the Sadar hospital for post-mortem examination.
