With the arrest of four persons, the Crime Branch of Thane police today claimed to have solved a burglary case in which jewelery worth over Rs 11 lakh was stolen, police said.
Addressing a press conference here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (crime) Parag Manere told media persons that the burglars had, on August 30, broken into Krishna Jewellers and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 11,30,700.
The police had then registered offenses under IPC sections 457, 380 and 34 and the investigation was taken up by the Ulhasnagar unit of the Crime branch, headed by Inspector Sanjay Sable, he said.
Yesterday, the Crime Branch officials noticed the four persons roaming around dubiously in the jewellery market and apprehended them, he said.
The police recovered jewelery worth Rs 80,000 from the arrested persons, besides a sack containing tools, which they used to break into the shop, he said.
He further said more persons might be involved in the crime, and they might have fled the state.
The accused have been identified as Noor Islam Akhil Shaikh, 26, and Amaruddin Alihussain Shaikh, 54, both hailing from Sahebganj in Jharkhand, and Rabeul alias Chotu Shaidul Sheikh, 19, and Prabhu Bhagal Chowdhari, 20, both belonging to Malda in West Bengal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) (crime) Nagesh Lohar said.
Efforts are on to nab the other accused in the crime, police said, adding they hope to recover the remaining booty soon.
