Fourth child too dies after six days

After fighting for life for six days, the child who was critically injured after being hit by a truck near Mathcolony in North 24 Parganas district, died tonight at a private hospital in Salt Lake.
Three other children, who had been waiting for a bus to go to school by the side of Belghoria Expressway, died on the spot when the truck crushed them on the morning of February 15.
All the four children, in the age group of 5-8 years, belong to a single family.
Officials of the Salt Lake hospital said the child, one leg of whom had been amputated, died at 10.30 PM.

Following the accident, an irate mob set three police vehicles afire, smashed an RT van and put up a road blockade. Five police personnel were also injured in the violence.
The truck driver was arrested the following day and 11 others were apprehended for the violence.
