Following the protests, a police spokesman said probe to ascertain the cause of the death was already on.
"Police has taken cognisance of suspicious death of a lady, Kulsuma and the investigation is going on," the spokesman said in a statement here.
Kulsuma, wife of Ghulam Mustafa Bhat, a resident of Chandhara in Pulwama died in suspicious circumstances at SMHS, here on October 9.
Police took the cognisance of the suspicious death and initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC in this regard, the spokesman said.
He said the post mortem of the body was conducted and viscera were sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for tests.
"Further investigation will be carried after the medical report is received," he added.
