Funds for minorities are being misappropriated: Naqvi

The funds meant for the empowerment schemes for the minorities were being misappropriated as a result they are still backward, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today.
Pointing out that there was never shortage of funds due to contributions from the Centre and the states, he said "Even though funds have been channelised for various schemes, unemployment prevails and there are still backward in the field of education. Their empowerment is not happening".
Speaking at 'Hakim Ajmal Khan Global Awards' function Naqvi said "Despite several efforts, changes were not happening at the ground level."
Citing an instance, he said recently we had fire two or three officials who were allegedly involved in misappropriation of funds. "We are looking into the issue".
Commenting on India's potential in Ayurveda and Unani, Naqvi said the country had all the ability to become a hub for medical tourism.
"Be it Ayurveda or Unani, we have good experts in both the fields," he said.
Naqvi also assured to name a government scheme after Hakim Ajmal Khan.
On the occasion, the minister also distributed Hakim Ajmal Khan Global Awards in various categories for the promotion of Unani medicine.
