Furnish data of fatal accidents involving buses since 2009: HC

Delhi High Court today directed the city government to file an affidavit on number of fatal accidents involving passengers buses from 2009 following a plea opposing a rehabilitation plan for operators of 'killer' bluelines as it would let them return through backdoor.
A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice B D Ahmed also asked the government to furnish the notification relating to the Gramin Seva scheme and also the number of vehicles plying under such scheme.
"The government of Delhi is directed to file an affidavit indicating the fatal accidents involving buses in the city from 2009 till date year wise, Gramin Seva scheme which it has framed and amended the same from time to time and its notification and the number of vehicles plying under the Gramin Seva by September 5," the bench said.

The court's direction came after counsel Kailash Vasudev, who is assisting the court, opposed the government's proposed scheme to rehabilitate the blueline operators whose "killer" buses have been phased out in January 2011.
He contended that by giving alternative routes in outer Delhi as part of their rehabilitation plan, the government is trying to bring them back in the city and the court should not approve such a scheme.
Earlier, Delhi government had put a rehabilitation plan before the court and blueline operators and told the court that the Transport Department has worked out a policy to rehabilitate the nearly 1,500 blueline bus operators who had surrendered their permits a few years ago when the government had announced its plan to phase out blueline buses.
