Around 25 to 30 protesters belonging to All India Students Association (AISA) were detained from outside the metro station around 11:30 AM, police said, adding they were taken to the Parliament Street police station.
Later some other students also reached Parliament Street police station and had a clash with police.
Police said the march could not be allowed as prohibitory orders are in place in the area.
Meanwhile, members of various student bodies ABVP, INSO and KYS today also held demonstrations outside the residence of the vice-chancellor, demanding immediate rollback of FYUP.
The protesters raised slogans against the VC and demanded immediate rollback of the FYUP. Members of one Krantikari Yuva Sanghtan (KYP) also burnt the effigy of the VC.
"Delhi University's VC is playing with the future of students. University should immediately scrap FYUP and start admission process under the three-year undergraduate programme," ABVP's national secretary Rohit Chahal said.
Holding placards, the students also shouted slogans against the Delhi University's administration.
Another group of students gathered outside the office of UGC located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and protested there.
Also, a number of parents, who had come here from other states, also reached the residence of the VC, and demanded immediate resolution of the current issue in the interest of students.
Parents wanted to meet VC Singh, but they were not allowed to meet him by his security guards, who instead asked them to meet the university's spokesperson.
He also said the UGC and DU should immediately declare the date for starting the admission process.
