Speaking at the inauguration of the 14th Auto Expo here, Geete, however, said whatever Gadkari says and announces are in the interest of the nation, while asking the industry not to be worried.
"...there is a difference between his (Gadkari) speed and mine. His speed is faster but whatever he says and announces, he does it in the interest of the nation," he said.
Seeking to assuage the industry players, the minister further said, "I will give you an example when Indira Gandhi was the prime minister, she walked so fast that other ministers had to run. She used to walk and the rest ran.
"Such a similar thing is there between me and Gadkari but you please don't worry. Gadkari and myself, we are ministers of the same government. We have collective responsibility on behalf of the government."
Last year in the annual general meeting of Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Gadkari had asked automobile manufacturers to embrace electric vehicle technology in view of increasing air pollution otherwise they would be "bulldozed".
Also, in 2016 the government had decided to skip BS V emission norms and leapfrog to BS VI by April 2020, much to the resentment of the automobile companies.
Geete, who announced that the draft of a new policy addressing all the concerns of auto industry would come out in the next two months, said the government has been promoting Make in India while attracting investments, and all efforts will be made to protect the interest of investors.
