Five persons attacked a BJP functionary near here, injuring him seriously, police said today.
R Veerabahu (48), an autorickshaw driver, was returning home last night when two persons got into the vehicle.
When it stopped, three more persons got into the autorickshaw and hacked him with a sickle.
However, he managed to escape.
He is undergoing treatment in hospital, police said.
Veerabahu is a district executive committee member of the BJP.
