Gang members posing to be astrologers arrested

A gang of robbers which used to visit houses posing themselves as astrologers has been arrested, police said.
The members were nabbed from a car at Uppinangady near here hear yesterday. Their predictions were rendered in verses based on palmistry and using parrots for picking out fortune cards, police said.
After interrogation, police said the gang was carrying lethal weapons and had come from Hassan district with plans for robbery.
The gang members, who had been wandering in Belur, Arasikere and and Hagare in Hassan district, had moved to Krishnapura and Suratkal in Dakshina Kannada district of late, they said.
The gang had a history of thefts and many of them were involved in criminal cases and were convicted. They used to regroup after spending their term in prisons.
Police seized two swords, two iron rods, two cell phones and Rs 8,100 in cash along with the car in which they were travelling. The gang members were produced before the local court and had been remanded to judicial custody, police said.
