Chairperson of State Commission for Women Lopamudra Buxipatra said besides registering a case, the panel is sending a four-member team to Koraput to meet the survivor and discuss progress of the investigation in the matter with police officials.
The SCW team would also meet officials of the local administration to ensure speedy action, she said adding, discussion has already been held with officials of the local administration and the police on the matter. Immediate steps will be taken for ensuring faster action.
The girl, a student of class IX, has been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Koraput after she was allegedly gangraped on Tuesday by four men in combat uniform near Kunduli under the Pottangi police station jurisdiction.
While the police has formed five separate teams for investigating the case, which has been accorded a "Red Flag" tag, a breakthrough is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, a team of Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights visited the district and went to the hospital to enquire about the conditino of the girl.
Alleging tardy progress in the investigation into the case, the district unit of Congress today gave a 7-hour bandh call in the district on Monday demanding speedy action.
"Even though four days have passed since the barbaric incident took place, police is yet to get any clue in the case. We demand sincere and speedy investigation into the case," local MLA and Congress Chief Whip in assembly Tara Prasad Bahinipati told reporters at Jeypore.
"We will observe a bandh from 6 am to 1 pm on Monday and if the government fails to nab the culprits then the agitation will be intensified and will be spread to other areas," he added.
