Expressing serious doubts over the police's claims of having solved the murder of law student Gauri Srivastava with the arrest of two persons, opposition parties today demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
"The chief minister Akhilesh Yadav should immediately recommend a CBI inquiry into the Gauri murder case as it is not expected from the SSP of Lucknow, Yashaswi Yadav to solve the case," BJP spokesman Chandra Mohan said.
He also accused the Chief Minister of shielding the SSP.
Congress spokesman Amarnath Agarwal also said the people of the state capital as well as the parents of the deceased were not satisfied with the police action.
Several people including Congress party workers staged a dharna today demanding an impartial inquiry and arrest of the "real" culprits.
The party has extended full support to the parents of the victim, he said, adding that doubts are being raised as there are anomalies in the post mortem report and police theory.
Chairman of the communications department of the Congress, Satyadev Tripathi demanded that UP government recommend CBI inquiry in the case, saying that only the premier investigating agency could now unravel the truth.
Meanwhile, IG (Law and Order), A. Satish Ganesh said that investigations are still on and the Lucknow police would be taking the main accused on police custody remand soon for sustained interrogation.
"The police did not get enough time to question the accused and during the sustained interrogation all the statements will be verified in the light of the evidences so as to remove doubts," he said.
"The family and media have expressed doubts over some points in the police theory and this interrogation will remove them," he added.
Opposition claims that though the police claimed that the girl was hacked with a saw, the post mortem report said that a motorised slaughter equipment was used to chop the body.
