The move will help Genpact to tap into a deep and growing talent pool to provide transformational business services and solutions for its clients across industries, Genpact said in a statement.
Genpact currently has 12 delivery centres and about 5,000 employees in the US. Over the past five years, Genpact has increased the number of US employees by more than 50 per cent.
"The rapidly-changing global business environment and the growing importance of being geographically close to clients has spurred us to make strategic decisions to expand our US operations," Genpact president and CEO NV Tyagarajan said.
The move comes at a time when there are industry-wide concerns around tighter visa norms in key markets like the US. The business process management has thrived as work has been outsourced from the US and other developed markets to low-cost locations like India.
With rising protectionism across markets like Singapore and Australia, companies are beginning to adjust their business models and hiring more locals instead.
The ramp up in local hiring is also aimed at placating the Donald Trump administration in the US that has been critical of outsourcing firms.
