Jharia bandh affects normal life

The Jharia bandh called by opposition parties to protest the shifting of some educational institutions due to underground mine fire today affected normal life in the township.
Business establishments, markets and schools were closed and very few vehicles were seen on the roads at Jharia in Dhanbad district.
Dhanbad, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Rakesh Kumar said that bandh was peaceful and there was no report of any untowards incident.
The police detained many bandh supporters including Central Industrial Trade Union (CITU) national vice-president SK Bakshi, Congress leaders Santosh Singh, Samresh Alam, Meraj Khan and others. They were released in the evening.
The Congress and other opposition parties had given day long Jharia township bandh call to protest the district administration and Jharia Rehabilitation Development Authority (JRDA) decision to shift 70 years old RSP College, Jharia Raj plus-2 School and water tower of Mineral Area Development Authority (MADA), which caters drinking water requirement of the township, at Jelgora Hospital of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) due to raging mines fire.
