An inmate committed suicide by hanging in the Ghatsila jail, about 45 km from here, under Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district in the wee hours today, the police said.
Ramesh Mahali alias Bhuchung Mahali, who was the prime accused in the abduction and murder of a construction company worker early this month, hanged himself with the blanket in the wee hours, said Superintendent of Police (Rural), Shailendra Kumar Sinha.
Mahali tore off the blanket to give it a shape of a rope, with which he hanged himself to death, he said.
On the reason behind the Mahali's suicide, Sinha said no suicide note was found from the cell and investigations were on.
