Ghosal, who has slipped out world's top-20, somehow found a way to get past the Egyptian 12-10 11-1 7-11 12-14 11-9 in a match played yesterday night.
World no.23 from Kolkata squandered five match balls in the fourth game before scraping though. He next faces another higher-ranked Egyptian in Omar Mossad tomorrow.
"I've had a few close ones over the last year but haven't won. So just really happy to win after squandering five match balls in the fourth," Ghosal told PTI.
"Also, I have to get my body right first and then get used to the inside court because I'm not playing on the glass court," he said.
