The minor girl was admitted at the Paediatric Emergency ward of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) at around 4pm yesterday, hospital sources said.
"She was bleeding from injuries in her private parts. The child was in decompensated septic shock with respiratory failure and multi-organ dysfunction. On detailed examination, doctors suspected sexual assault for which a medico-legal case was lodged.
"In spite of the best efforts of doctors, the child could not be saved. She died at 12:45 am on February 2. The body has been sent for postmortem," a source said.
"So far neither family members nor medical reports suggest any sexual assault. However, we are waiting for the formal postmortem report to take a final call on the issue," he said.
