Girl killed in freak accident at manned rail crossing in Guj

A 14-year-old girl was today killed after her bicycle entangled with the last boggy of a passing train at the manned GST railway crossing here when she tried to go through it, a railway police official said.
The incident occurred this afternoon when the deceased Mansi Tiwari was returning home from school, said Head Constable of Sabarmati Railway police station Jaswantsinh Parmar.
"When the gate poles were down, as Anand-Gandhinagar MEMU train was approaching, Mansi and few others crossed the gates and came near the tracks. As Mansi's bicycle was very near to the tracks, foot ladder of the last bogey of passing train entangled with the front wheel of her bicycle," Parmar said.
"As the girl was sitting on the bicycle, she was dragged along and her head got smashed on the ground. Due to fatal injuries, she died on the spot. We have lodged a complaint of Accidental Death (AD) and started investigation," he added.
According to the officer, though the GST crossing in New Ranip area is a manned crossing having two gates, people on bikes, scooters and bicycles usually cross the closed gates to reach other sides of the tracks.

"An inquest has been initiated in the matter and we are collecting information regarding the sequence of events leading upto discovery of body of the girl," the senior officer said.
Police will be procuring CCTV footage for investigation. The companions of the girl, the supervising teacher of the tour and staff of the park will also be questioned, he said.
Representatives of the amusement park remained unavailable for comment.
The deceased's mother works as a maid and her two younger brothers work at a factory in the city. Her father died three years ago.
