Global artists, thinkers set to examine Delhi as cultural hub

Delhi has captured imagination of a clutch of local and international artists and thinkers, who will create artworks and engage in debates, to examine the social cultural and political role of an artist within the settings of this ever changing city.
Through a series of exhibits, symposiums and performances spread across the city over a period of one month beginning January 17, artists and thinkers are set to highlight notion of the artist "as a generator of ideas, who questions things the world takes for granted."
The event, titled INSERT 2014, has been produced by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation with support by the Max Meuller Bhavan and Pro Helvetia, Swiss Arts Council.

Artistic directors for the event are Raqs Media Collective who have previously curated hi profile projects like Manifesta 7, European Biennial of Contemporary Art among others.
At the centre of the event is an exhibition at Maati Ghar, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), which includes works by Thia conceptual artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, GEneva-born Mai-Thu Perret, Kendell Geers from South Africa, Ivana Franke from Croatia, Gauri Gill from Delhi and Israeli architect Eyal Weizman.
Works presented at Mati Ghar include sculpture, video, installation, performance.

"They will engage visitors in conversations with the site, the city, and some of the most exciting movements in global contemporary culture," the organisers said in a statement.

Among an outreach programme of INSERT is an exhibition Yao Jui-Chung, one of Taiwan's most prolific artistic practitioners, at Jawaharlal Nehru University on January 17.
Also 'New Models on Common Ground', a special research cell launched by INSERT2014 invited thinkers from varied fields to submit proposals for the enhancement of artistic, cultural and intellectual life in Delhi.
Selected proposals by 25 respondents including artists, curators, writers, poets, journalists and lawyers are set to be presented during the event.
