Police busted the hideout camp of GNLA and the outfit's self styled Lance Corporal Pilong Sangma alias Markus was shot dead at remote Bansamgre village, about 25 km from Williamnagar, the district headquarter.
On seeing a police team, the group of cadres opened fire and the encounter last for about four hours following which the militant was killed and the camp busted.
One AK 47 rifle with 3 magazines with 148 rounds of ammunition, one US made 45 colt pistols with 17 rounds, two grenades, two wireless set, GNLA identity card of the slain cadre and incriminating documents were seized from the camp, police said.
