In an interesting development, a Lt Gen wants his Annual Confidential Record to be written by the Air Chief and not the Army Chief in the wake of his plea in a court against his force.
The officer, posted in tri-services organisation, had requested that his ACR should be written by the IAF Chief, who is also the Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee, as the Army Chief could have been biased against him for approaching the courts against his organisation, sources in the Army said.
After taking views from the Army headquarters, the Government decided against the officer on the grounds that such a plea cannot be entertained on mere assumption that the superiors of an official would be biased against him for approaching courts against Government decisions, they said.
Sources in the Army said the officer had sent the request to the Government in March, much before the process of writing the ACRs of officers begins after the end of a financial year.
After the ACR is written and an officer feels that he has not been given the right treatment, there are remedies available to him to seek a review of the whole process and can even approach the courts for getting relief, they said.
The officer has approached the Armed Forces Tribunal for seeking promotion and the verdict in his case is yet to be announced.
