The Goa Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is likely to summon Opposition leader Chandrakant Kavlekar for questionning anytime this week after booking him in a disproportionate assets case last week.
The senior Congress leader and his wife Savitri were booked last Friday on charge of amassing wealth in excess of their known sources of income, after the agency conducted searches at his residences and offices of his companies.
As per preliminary probe, the agency had valued the "disproportionate assets" at over Rs 4.78 crore excluding the "unexplained amount" of Rs 5.50 crore.
"In all probability, Kavlekar will be summoned for questioning this week," a senior ACB official told PTI today.
He said the investigation was on against Kavlekar and he needs to be quizzed on certain aspects.
The officer said a detailed inquiry was being conducted into the entire assets of the politician.
Investigation officer and ACB Superintendent of Police Bosco George was not available for comments.
However, he told reporters last week that the Quepem MLA failed to give satisfactory response to the ACB about his additional sources of income to the tune of Rs five crore.
Kavlekar and his wife were booked under section 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
The MLA, currently the Leader of Opposition in the Goa Assembly, is alleged to have amassed the disproportionate assets during his stint as the chairman of the Goa Industrial Corporation during 2005 to 2012.
Kavlekar had denied the allegations against him while his party had termed them "malicious and politically-motivated charges".
