Amid stiff opposition for marina projects in Goa, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said the state government will review its decision to allow such projects.
"I will send the proposal of investment in marinas back to Goa Investment Promotion Board," Parsekar told PTI.
A private company and Mormugao Port Trust had proposed two marinas one at Nauxi and another at Sancoale village respectively.
The locals including BJP legislators - Vishnu Wagh and Alina Saldanha, had opposed the projects claiming that it will affect the livelihood of the fishermen community.
The chief minister today said "government never pushed for the projects."
"The investment promotion board had cleared the proposals with the condition that the investors should get clearances from authorities like Goa Bio diversity Board and Environment ministry," he said.
Parsekar said that the marinas would sail through only if there is clearances from these authorities.
"Now since people don't want it, I will refer the proposal back to the investment promotion board," he added.
State Environment minister and BJP legislator Alina Saldanha who is opposing the project today said in no way the marinas would be allowed at Nauxi and Sancoale.
"I am confident that marinas won't come up. The Bio Diversity Board has not given the clearance for it," she said.
