Goa government has proposed to bring in a law providing protection to private medical practitioners in Goa from any kind of assault on them or their machinery by relatives of patients.
State health minister Laxmikant Parsekar today announced that the forthcoming state Legislative Assembly session will discuss 'Goa Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institution Bill' that would provide protection to private practitioners from being attacked or their machinery being damaged by patients or their relatives.
Private doctors are sometimes at the receiving end over allegations of medical negligence by patients and their relatives.
The bill also proposes a provision to monitor the conduct of doctors by setting up a committee which will hear grievances of patients, who claim medical negligence.
State Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that the proposed bill has been drafted on-par with the legislation enacted in Maharashtra.
The bill also proposes to cover clinics which are legally permitted by the law to operate in the state, he added.
