The Goa government today said it lacked finances to build sports infrastructure for now, as it is focussing on erecting stadia for the National Games 2019.
"We don't have finances to take up new projects. We are already investing in the National Games. You will have to wait. We will be able to invest only after year 2019," Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said in the Legislative Assembly.
He was responding to a question tabled by Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Dipak Pawaskar.
The MLA demanded construction of a stadium in North Goa's Dharbandora taluka by acquiring land from the state-run Sanjivani Sugar Factory.
The minister ruled out the possibility of acquiring the land and building the stadium in the taluka.
"If Pawaskar, who is the chairman of state-run Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), can acquire the land on behalf of the corporation, then the sports department can construct the indoor stadium," said the minister.
Goa would host the National Games in March-April 2019.
