Goa panchayat polls: 54 candidates file nominations

Fifty-four candidates filed their nominations for the panchayat polls in Goa on the first day of submitting papers today.
No nomination was received from four talukas - Dharbandora, Sanguem, Mormugao and Canacona - State Election Commission officials said.
In all 31 nominations were received in North Goa - 13 in Pernem, 11 in Bardez, three each in Bicholim and Tiswadi and one in Sattari taluka, they said.
South Goa received 23 nominations - Ponda (13), Salcette (9) and one in Quepem, the officials said.
The last date for filing the nominations isMay 25 and scrutiny will take place on May 26 and 27.
A total of 1,522 wards will go to the polls on June 11.
