Goa's proposed IT policy to promote local start-ups

The proposed revamped IT Policy of Goa would focus on local such companies looking for expansion in the state, the Legislative Assembly was told today.
The Policy will also encourage medium-sized companies for generation of jobs.
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte told the House the draft policy will be unveiled in the next two months, which will promote IT start-ups in the industrial estates of the state.
He said the draft policy would be placed before Cabinet soon.
"The state government is in the process of drafting a revamped IT policy, which will be ready in the next two months. The policy will speak about encouraging employment generating mid-companies and Goan IT companies looking for expansion in the state.
"We are welcoming all types of industries, but our immediate focus is on promotion of start-ups and expansion of existing IT companies," the minister said.
He said the government would also look at promoting the bigger IT companies on public private partnership (PPP) mode.
Khaunte said IT start-ups are being promoted to stop the brain drain from the state.
"The state aimsto set up 100 start-ups in the next five years and 20,000 sq mtrs of land will be demarcated for the purpose in the IT park," he added.
