Goa villagers evacuated after floods sweep low lying areas

Incessant rains caused flash floods in the low lying areas of South Goa due to which the administration evacuated people from more than 500 houses in Cuncolim village.
Officials said that the people have been shifted to a nearby municipal hall, after rains continued playing havoc in the state.
The national highway running through Cuncolim village, 40 kms from here, was also inundated this afternoon. The water, however, subsided later.
Local MLA Rajan Naik told PTI that all efforts were being made to ensure that people are not affected due to floods.
"These are flash floods and water should recede once rains stop," he said.

Meanwhile, the data by India Meteorological Department (IMD) revealed that Goa's capital Panaji received 3.8 inches of rainfall during the last 24 hours, taking the total rain received during the season to 32 inches.
