GoC visits Poonch LoC; also meets slain GREF worker's family

Amid ceasefire violations by Pakistan, the General-officer-Commanding (GoC) of 16 Corps Lt. Gen. A K Sharma today visited forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
The GoC, White Knight Corps, visited forwardareas in Krishna Ghati sector along the LoC in Poonch district, a Defence spokesperson said.
He commended troops for keeping a constant vigil and valiant action taken by them to thwart the inimical designs of Pakistan.
During his visit, he also met the family of Mohammed Parvez, aGeneral Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) worker, who was killed in Pakistani shelling in Mankote area ofMendhar on June 2 and presented his wife a cheque of Rs one lakh, he said.
He expressed his solidarity and assured all support to the family while giving the cheque to Safir Akther, the GREF worker's wife, on behalf of the Lt. Gen. D Anbu, Army Commander, Northern Command.
Pakistan army has been resorting to ceasefire violation forpast one week.
There had been six ceasefire violations in the last three daysand a total 17, along the LoC and the International Border in Poonch, Rajouri and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir since June 1 in which one civilianhad died and seven others were injured.
An army jawan was killed today when Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked firing on forward posts of Indian Army along the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting Indian Army to retaliate strongly and effectively.
