Gogoi undergoes medical tests

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today underwent medical tests including echocardiography and chest X-ray at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.

"As an echocardiography was planned for sometime, we did the test of the Chief Minister today. His heart is working very well. The last echocardiography for the valve fitted in his heart in 2009 was done in 2013 in Mumbai", his cardiologist Dr Anjan Bhattacharjee told reporters.

"As he was suffering from an allergic cough due to dust, we did an x-ray of his chest. The chest congestion was cleared with a nebuliser", Dr Bhattacharjee said.

He was kept under observation for about 45 minutes in a private cabin of the hospital before he was allowed to go home, the doctor said.

On rumours that the Chief Minister had taken ill and had to be rushed to the GMCH, Dr Bhattacharjee said, "he is under my care and for some time I have been thinking of doing the Echo test. As the echocardiography machine cannot be taken to his residence and it is here (hospital), we had to do the test here".

79-year old Gogoi was seen walking out of the hospital to his car waving at the people there before he left for his official home on Koinadhora hill.

The team of senior doctors attending on the Chief Minister advised him to take two days rest before resuming his normal duties.

A spokesman of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said Gogoi had not fallen ill suddenly as rumoured but had gone to the hospital for routine medical tests.

Gogoi had inhaled dust when he formally launched the 'Clean Assam Campaign' in the capital city at a Durga puja mandap by sweeping the compound and two other puja mandaps, the spokesman added.
