Two persons have been arrested at the Mangalore International Airport for allegedly smuggling two kg of gold valued at Rs 53 lakh.
The arrested have been identified as Hanif (50) and Bashir (35), both from Kasaragod in Kerala, a Customs release said.
They had arrived here from Dubai yesterday morning.
The gold was found concealed in the form of powder filled in tooth paste, face cream and shampoo containers. The officials suspected unusual material while scanning the luggage bags of these passengers.
On examining the baggage further, the concealed gold was found and the two were arrested, the release said.
