A Punjab-bound goods train was derailed at Harthala railway station here, dispiriting train services between Lucknow and Delhi, railway officials said today.
The coal-laden train from Jharkhand was on its way to Delhi when it stopped at the Harthala station last evening due to technical problem, Divisional Railway Manager, Moradabad, Pramod Kumar said.
However, the train got into motion as the drivers had not applied the brakes properly, leading to derailment of nine of its wagons, including the guard's coach, Kumar said.
Both the drivers, loco inspector, station master and traffic inspector were suspended and high-level enquiry team has been set up to probe the matter, the DRM added.
Financial loss due to derailment was yet to be ascertained, he said, adding that restoration work was still on.
