Motsepe was given the annual FW de Klerk Goodwill Award instituted four years ago by the F W De Klerk Foundation.
F W De Klerk was the last white President of South Africa who unbanned the African National Congress and freed Nelson Mandela to take over from him in 1994 after 27 years as a political prisoner.
De Klerk and Mandela jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
"(Motsepe's) contribution extends to the education and health sectors; the development and uplift of the women, youth, workers and the disabled; churches; the development of entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs; rural and urban uplift; soccer, including youth soccer development; music and to other charities and foundations," the Foundation said in a statement.
Motsepe is a member of the international Business Council (IBC) of the World Economic Forum (WEF), which is made up of 100 of the most highly respected and influential chief executives from all industries, as well as a member of the JP Morgan International Council.
He is currently the non-executive chairman of mining giant Harmony.
