Govt approves Rs 1,298 cr proj to beautify Nagpur's Nag river

Government today approved a Rs 1,298 crore project for beautification and rejuvenation of Nagpur's Nag river.
The approval to the project was given after a meeting between Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari with Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar here.
"The project for beautification of Nag river has been approved and Rs 1,298 assistance will be sought from JICA to implement it," Gadkari, who also represents the Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency, told reporters after the meeting.
He said the National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) has recommended the project and now assistance will be sought through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The project will not only beautify the river but also minimise its pollution, he said.
The detailed project report for the plan was submitted to NRCD in May 2011 while comments on it were received from IIT Roorkee based on which Nagpur Municipal Corporation appointed NJS Engineers Pvt Ltd as consultants to revamp the DPR, an official said.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has requested NRCD to consider the project for funding on lines of that being done for a similar project in Pune wherein 85 per cent by the government and 15 per cent by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the official said.
