Government has asked all Members of Parliament to contribute toward rehabilitation and reconstruction works in the flood ravaged areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Minister of State for Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh has urged the Members of Parliament to contribute for rehabilitation and reconstruction works for the affected areas of Jammu & Kashmir from their MPLADS," a press release said.
In a letter to all MPs , Singh said as per Para 2.8 of the Guidelines on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (which has been amended recently), MPs can recommend up to a maximum of Rs one crore for rehabilitation works for the affected areas anywhere in the country in the event of calamity of severe nature.
Singh said floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains have caused devastation in Jammu and Kashmir and there is a need for large scale rehabilitation and reconstruction works.
He said, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state on September 7 has stated that the crisis is a national disaster.
Under the MPLAD scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs five crore per annum to be taken up in his or her constituency.
The Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha can recommend works in one or more districts in the state from where he or she has been elected.
The nominated MPs of both the Houses may select any one or more districts from any one state in the country for implementation of their choice of work under the scheme.
