Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir today banned private air-borne activities within a radius of one km from any defence or security installation in district Udhampur for a period of 60 days to prevent any untoward incident ahead of Independence day.
The order comes in view of the "security threat" following an "alert" by Indian Air Force (IAF).
"Restrictions have been imposed on the use of para-gliders, parachutes, air balloons and other air-borne activities within a radius of one km from any Defence or security installation in Udhampur district as a security measure following inputs from Air Force headquarters," District Magistrate Udhampur Niraj Kumar said, adding restrictions have been imposed under section 144 of CrPC.
"In case of any such activity, prior permission of the District Magistrate shall be required," he said.
Kumar directed private agencies, operating such businesses, to disclose their details along with details of equipment to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur.
"Anyone willing to start such business or activity and any private, government agency subletting any such equipment, item shall seek prior permission of the DM," he said.
Sub-divisional-magistrates (SDMs), tehsildars and station house officers (SHOs) in the district have been ordered to ensure compliance of the order and in case of violation, penal action under section should be taken against the violators, Kumar said.
The order shall remain in force for a period of two months unless rescinded earlier, he added.
