Government has started the search for the next Competition Commission chairperson as incumbent Ashok Chawla will be retiring in January, 2016.
Chawla has been at the helm of the anti-trust regulator, which keeps a tab on unfair business practices in the market place, since 2011.
Individuals having at least 15 years professional experience in diverse areas such as economics, business, commerce and management, are eligible to apply for the Competition Commission of India (CCI) chairperson post.
The watchdog, which comes under the administrative control of the Corporate Affairs Ministry, has in recent times clamped down on anti-competitive practices across various sectors, including real estate and auto.
The Ministry has invited applications for the post of CCI chairperson, whose tenure would be for five years or till attaining 65 years of age, whichever is earlier.
Chawla would be turning 65 in January, 2016.
Individuals having at least 15 years of professional experience in areas such as "international trade, economics, business, commerce, law, finance, accountancy, management, industry, public affairs or competition matters, including competition law and policy," would be eligible to apply.
The CCI chairperson would be paid a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 4.50 lakh and the individuals would not be entitled to house and car, as per the Ministry.
The deadline for sending applications for the CCI chairperson post is October 23.
Chawla took over the reins of CCI in October, 2011 and under his stewardship, the Commission has dealt with many high profile cases apart from efforts to spread awareness about competition laws in the country.
Meanwhile, the government has also started the search for a new chairman of capital markets regulator Sebi.
Incumbent U K Sinha's tenure is ending next February.
The three-year term of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan would be ending late next year.
